A Tribute to My Father
Posted by Isaac Butterworth | Filed under family
It is January 4. It is late in the day. Very late. But I wanted to record just a word or two about my father. Today is the ninetieth anniversary of his birth. He was born on this day in 1922 in Millville, New Jersey.
He was raised in Salem, New Jersey, and graduated from high school there.
HIs name was William George Butterworth, but he went simply by Bill. He was a veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart for being wounded in combat. He was always quick on his feet, moving swiftly with precision in any crisis. He taught himself to play the guitar, and he was a pretty good singer. He was a good dancer, too.
His favorite recreation was fishing, and, when the weather permitted, the weekends would find us at the lake.
He was the cook for his unit in the Army, and my family benefitted from his skills in the kitchen.
He died in March, 1999, while a patient at Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia. I miss him, and I just wanted to pay this tribute to him.

Was reading through some of your writings and found this since it was close to Father’s Day. Heartfelt tribute.
