Earthquake in Haiti
Posted by Isaac Butterworth | Filed under Disaster
Our hearts go out to the people of Haiti, arguably the world’s poorest country, which was devastated last night by an earthquake of 7.0 magnitude. Communication with Haiti is almost impossible at this point, and travel into the country is uncertain. I understand that the US Navy is sending an aircraft carrier with aid and assistance.
The Presbyterian Church (USA), you can be sure, will be on site as soon as possible. If you would like to donate to the relief effort, I invite you to do so through the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance program. Your check should be made payable to “Presbyterian Church (USA.),” marked “Haiti relief,” and sent to Presbyterian Church (USA), Individual Remittance Processing, P.O. Box 643700, Pittsburgh, PA 15264-3700. To learn more about Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, log on to http://www.pcusa.org/pda/, or phone Pamela Burdine at (888) 728-7228, extension 5839.
The flag of Haiti, pictured above, was adopted on February 25, 1987.
